Dr. Jeremy Graves explains how defining moments can shape a generation and have a profound impact on creativity. We all have a lens, the question is: do we let that lens shape our creativity or keep us from seeing a clear picture?

Episode Transcript

I’m Dr. Jeremey Graves. Today’s question is a great one: are there differences in creativity between generations? Yes, I believe there are differences in how generations view creativity based on different generational views. We know that one of the ways that people from within a given generation view the world is through what are called defining moments. If you are a Boomer, where were you when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon? If you are a Gen-Xer, where were you when the Challenger Space Shuttle exploded? If you’re a millennial, where were you when 9/11 took place? How would an event like that shape how you view creativity? This unifying event helped bring not just millennials but all generations together. Defining moments can shape a generation and have a profound impact on creativity. Can you think of any defining moments from your generation? How do those moments impact how you see creativity? We all have a lens. The question is, do we let that lens shape our creativity or keep us from seeing a clear picture? The choice is yours. Until next time, keep innovating.
