Neuroscience expert and leadership coach Tanja Yardley shares the three crucial networks in our brains that contribute to our creativity. Want to become more creative?
Episode Transcript
Creative thinking is a crucial part of the innovation process. Did you know that research shows that creative thinkers are more fulfilled? In fact, it shows that they are about 40% happier than the general population, and, oddly enough, they are also about 13% higher paid. Which means that creativity is not just important, but it’s a valuable skill in many ways. Creativity requires three networks in the brain: the attention network, the imagination network, and the salience network. The attention and the imagination usually work in tandem, and the salience network works like a toggle switch. It lets you know that an idea you just had is important and worth your attention. It also toggles to the imagination side to increase your ability to notice novel or beautiful or unique things. So, all of these systems work together to help you create a-ha moments and insights that help you plan for the future and imagine things that don’t even exist yet.
