“We are the most innovative when we seek to embrace and collaborate along the generational spectrum.” – Dr. Jeremy Graves
Episode Transcript
I’m Dr. Jeremy Graves. Today, we have a question: is one generation better at innovation than another? The answer is emphatically, no. Research shows that generations tend to go through similar phases, and those phases can impact creativity. For instance, Phase One, the High. A high is a time when each generation believes they are the best. During this High Phase, they believe their generation is the best when it comes to innovation. Phase Two, the Awakening. During this phase, generations recognize their innovation and contributions are part of something that makes this world a beautiful place. Phase Three, the Unraveling. During this phase, disruptive innovation is at its finest. This is when each generation begins to bring everything back to the drawing board and look for new ways to innovate. Phase Four, this is the Crisis Phase. It’s during this phase that many from a generation will question their innovative process and look for ways to ensure a legacy. These four phases, or turns, can be found throughout each generation. This reminds us that we all need one another and we are the most innovative when we seek to embrace and collaborate along the generational spectrum. This means, we need all generations to truly be the most creative. Until next time, keep innovating.
