What type of person will excel in the Identify Stage? This is Ron Price, co-author of The Innovator’s Advantage. Because Stage One, the Identify Stage, is about creating ideas, identifying problems and opportunities, the person who excels in this stage will have great skills in futuristic thinking, creativity, continuous learning. They’ll be flexible and resilient and they’ll value teamwork and they’ll be self-starting. They will be passionate about discovering new ways of doing things. They’ll be intentional, they’ll be objective and selfless. They will be competitive and have a sense of urgency, and they’ll be versatile. They’ll enjoy frequent change, and we will describe them as a persuader kind of leader. They will put a strong emphasis on identifying new ways to improve systems, to create more practical and intrinsic results. They will think of others as stakeholders for whom they can create new value. The leadership style for somebody who will excel in Stage One, the Identify Stage, is the style of the Persuader—getting results through other people. So, until next time, keep innovating.
