Dr. Evans Baiya discusses the importance of a culture of ideation within your organization.

Episode Transcript:

For you to do great work in idea management, you must have the right organizational culture and structure. Let’s talk about culture for a second. We need all of us to collaborate. We need to be able to talk to each other. We need to spend time in dedicating ourselves to idea generation, idea improvement, idea organizing, right, evaluation. We need to spend time there.

The second one is we need acceptance of ideas. You must be open to ideas and different types of ideas. Most of the times we don’t accept other ideas. Yet, your next innovation, your next big idea that will allow you to grow, may come from a very, very different source. It’s really important—do not critique an idea when it’s given to you. Just take it, accept it, and then work on it from there.

And the last thing is you need team chemistry. We always say you will never get great ideas from a distrusting team. If I feel I’m not trusted, I’m never going to give you my best ideas. So, we need to invest as part of our cultural metrics—how well are we collaborating? How well are we in accepting ideas? How well are we at inviting and bringing in different kinds of ideas? And how well are we in terms of trust and team chemistry? Because that actually multiplies the impact of everybody in the organization.
