What type of person excels in the Scale Stage? This is Ron Price, co-author of The Innovator’s Advantage. For the sixth stage of the innovation continuum, we need somebody who has great skills in negotiation, somebody who is a self-starter, a futuristic thinker, who is creative and continues the innovation process, who is continually learning, and who is flexible. We’re looking for somebody who feels rewarded by being open and receptive to new ideas and systems and ways of doing things, someone who is intentional in helping others. We’re looking for behavioral traits that include someone who enjoys frequent interaction with others, someone who is versatile, who engages in frequent change, who has a strong sense of urgency. In effect, the leadership style that we’re looking for in the sixth stage is the Promoter, the person who loves to promote, share, and sell ideas with others. They look at systems and look for ways to improve them. They look at others and see opportunities for new business and new value, and they look at getting things done and think about the big picture, understanding that somebody else will be taking care of the details. This is the person who will excel in the sixth stage of innovation. So, until next time, keep innovating.
