What type of person excels in the Develop Stage, Stage 3 of the innovation continuum? This is Ron Price, co-author of The Innovator’s Advantage. The stage of development requires somebody with great skills in futuristic thinking, creativity, resiliency. They’ll need to be self-starting and flexible. They will need planning and organizing skills and good problem-solving skills. They’ll need to be receptive and open to new ideas, new ways of doing things. And oftentimes they will excel in this stage if they have more of a commanding presence, a desire to be in charge—that desire for status or prestige or recognition or to be able to control their own destiny. Behavioral traits of a person in this stage include competitiveness, the drive to win, a sense of urgency, and the leadership style for a person in this stage is the conductor, a person who’s focused on bottom-line results. They will focus on practical results and changing or adapting systems to create those results and organizing people when those people will help them get results.
