Do you know someone who is very direct, logical, and thrives in fast-paced environments? They might have a dominant communication personality. The Innovator’s Advantage Team breaks down the traits of this communicator and offers advice on how to best talk with them.

Episode Transcript:

You’ll remember from the last episode, we shared two tools we like to use here at The Innovator’s Advantage to communicate more effectively with everyone on the team—the Innovation Fitness™ Assessment and TTI Success Insights’ DISC Model.

The DISC Model breaks down four behavioral styles—Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, or Compliance. These four behavioral styles also correlate with the different innovation personalities found in Innovation Fitness™ Assessment. Now, there may be some overlap in how each person prefers to communicate, but you can use these tools to guide you to better communicate with your colleagues. Let’s take a look at a Dominant communication style.

If you find you have a more dominant communication personality, you might also find you align more with Stages 3 and 5 of Innovation, or the Developers and Verifiers.

This type of communicator is usually direct and to the point and thrives in more challenging and fast-paced environments. Logic and efficiency are the best way to present information to this task-oriented problem solver. However, be sure to give them an opportunity to share their opinions and make their own decisions. They may show anger if they disagree with you but understand that it’s not personal.

We’ll take a look at Influencer Communicators in our next episode. Until then, keep innovating!
